The assignment Fish and other seafood contain substances that have a positive effect on the public health, but they may also contain contaminants and other undesirable substances. At the request of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety (VKM) conducted an assessment of the nutritional benefits of consuming fish and other seafood compared to the health risks associated with the intake of contaminants and other undesirable substances that fish and other seafood may contain.
